Breeds we raise

The Tan breed is a 4 class rabbit where seniors are over 6 months. Senior bucks are to weigh between 4 and 5 1/2 pounds and the senior does are to weigh between 4 and 6 pounds. Juniors are animals under 6 months of age and weigh at least 2 pounds. Tans are shown in 4 varieties: black, blue, chocolate and lilac. Tans are judged by allowing the animals to run freely on the table. This allows judges to see the animals' natural pose and movements. Running the animals also allows the judge to see the line of demarcation and chest markings. Handling of the animal is done only for the preliminary examination and to compare markings and richness of tan factor. Tans are a full arch breed that exhibit a moderate arch from the nape of the neck to the base of the tail. The animals should have a slight taper from the shoulders to the hips. Tans are described as having their own type, different from any other breed. The fur is a "snappy" flyback fur that is to have a high gloss. The tan color, also referred to as tan factor, is to be a fiery red color and is the distinguishing feature for the breed. Tans are bred mainly for show purposes. While this breed has an exquisite look, they tend to be excitable in nature and require lots of handling to maintain a calm animal.

The Himalayan breed is a 4 class rabbit where seniors are over 6 months of age. Senior bucks and does are to weigh between 2 ½ and 4 ½; junior bucks and does are to weigh at least 1 ¼ pounds. Himalayans are shown in four varieties: black, blue, chocolate and lilac. As the only cylindrical typed breed, Himalayans are posed stretched out as far as possible while keeping their forelegs and hocks on the table. Posing the animals in this manner allows judges to see their length, type and markings. The body is to be round, yet narrow enough to see the cylindrical shape. Type is not the only important feature on this breed. Markings are of equal importance. Himalayans are to have markings on the nose, ears, tail, feet and legs. The nose marking should be egg shaped with the small end being high between the eyes. The ears should be colored from the tip to the base. The coloration on the feet and legs should be rich and carried as high as possible. The tail should match the rest of the markings. The body is to be pure white. Himalayans are extremely docile and make excellent pets for those interested in a relatively smaller breed.
